travel and scholarships
PLEASE VISIT http://www.cvs.umd.edu/visitors/maps.html FOR THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE TRAVEL INFORMATION.
The University of Maryland in College Park is conveniently located near three major airports: Baltimore Washington International (BWI), Reagan National(DCA), and Dulles International(IAD). You will find that the cheapest flights are probably into/out of BWI or DCA, so please shop around! There is also a Greyhound (Washington, DC), Megabus (Washington, DC), Bolt Bus (Greenbelt or Washington, DC) all within 30 minutes of campus via metro. Amtrak is easily accessible via Union Station in Washington, DC. If you plan on booking a train ticket, please contact maria@usft.org (she has a discount code you can use). If you live in the area, or plan to take the metro, the University of Maryland is located on the Green Line (towards Greenbelt). (Feel free to use the "Trip Planner" on this page to plan your metro ride! http://wmata.com/index.cfm) Using Union Station as a point of reference, take the red line towards Glenmont and then transfer to the Green Line (towards Greenbelt) at Fort Totten. Get off of the Green Line at the University of Maryland: College Park stop. A red ShuttleUM bus departs every 20 minutes (on the hour) from the bus terminal at the metro station and takes you directly to campus (it is free and you do not need an ID to ride the bus). This is the easiest way to get to campus). Check out the schedule of the College Park 104 ShuttleUM bus here : http://www.transportation.umd.edu/images/Shuttle/Schedules%20pdfs/curren... If you are planning on driving to the University of Maryland, parking is free on campus after 4pm on weekdays and all weekend. Make sure you read the signs in the parking lots though -- sometimes there are exceptions, and if you are unsure, move to a different lot -- you WILL be ticketed. There are also "pay to park" parking garages on campus -- those are NEVER FREE. Just an FYI (not so cool) -- the University of Maryland has been ranked as the most parking ticketed campus....there is an average of 3 tickets per parking spot each year, so watch out! On that note, if you are ticketed at any point over the weekend, you do have the option to appeal the ticket. While we cannot guarantee your appeal will be accepted, if you say that the signs were unclear or you were told by someone you could park there , they will accept your appeal...so if you get a ticket, appeal it! Any additional travel questions? Contact emily@usft.org UPDATE FEB 1, 2012: We are no longer accepting travel scholarship applications for the 2012 convergence. Thank you to everyone who has applied, and you will be notified by Feb 8th if you will receive a travel scholarship. No inquiries concerning travel scholarships will be responded to until after that date |
